MEDIA STATEMENT

UNSANCTIONED CHEERLEADING EVENT

PETALING JAYA (December 18, 2010) – The Cheerleading Association and Register of Malaysia (CHARM) – the national governing body for cheerleading in the country – wishes to inform the public of an unsanctioned cheerleading event that is being conducted by unqualified individuals.

Kindly note that the Cheer4Xmas workshop organised by Sungei Wang Plaza from December 4 to 25, 2010 for the mall’s Christmas activities are not sanctioned CHARM. CHARM has not received any application for sanction from Sungei Wang Plaza to organise such a workshop and the instructors engaged to conduct the events do not hold any cheerleading credentials.

Sanctioning is required for cheerleading educational activities/clinics/workshops as well as competitions in Malaysia and that the instructors conducting those events must hold credentials/qualifications recognised by CHARM.

In lieu of this, CHARM wishes to state that it is not associated with the event and will not be responsible or liable for any damages, loss, expenses, etc. in connection to or resulting from it.

Individuals and teams participating in these workshops will be doing so voluntarily and thereby assuming all risks for any injuries or damages resulting therefrom, and may be banned from competing in any future competitions or from any involvement with the national team.
